Liming Acidic Soils
Many Kansas soils require regular applications of lime for optimum crop production, and fall is the ideal time to apply lime to your fields, with it generally being dryer and before the lime piles start freezing up in the heart of winter. Having the proper pH in your soil reduces the harmful or potentially toxic conditions of acidic soils, primarily caused by applying nitrogen fertilizers.

There is no right or wrong time to contract. It should be a decision that is made considering the profitability of your operation. If you can take the guesswork out of profitability by locking in expenses at a known rate – do it. Historically, pricing is at seasonal lows between December and March, but history doesn't always repeat itself, as we have all seen since the beginning of 2020! History is out the door!
